ambitions to do more

Cerebral Palsy Cymru provide vital support to children and their parents.  A charity with family at its heart.

Digital Wonderlab have been their trusted digital partner since 2019 enabling their digital transformation to improve their business processes, elevate their profile and fundraising potential and revolutionise the way they deliver services.

From audit and strategy development to building a new fundraising platform, we have supported their growth and quality ambitions.

The combination of an enhanced website, strengthened infrastructure and a relevant, engaging new brand identity, ensures the charity can engage supporters effectively whilst driving an increase in its volunteer base, income and retail operations. All achieved safely and securely with cloud back up of sensitive data.

Cerebral Palsy Cymru’s new website and brand launched in the summer of 2020, against the backdrop of Covid-19.  With the digital foundations laid when the lockdown restrictions began, they were able to pivot and deliver essential care for families in need virtually. This was the key driver for the team to keep going through this unsettling period.

Cerebral Palsy Cymru are eager to grow their presence in the sector and realise their vision of becoming an international Centre of Excellence at the forefront of clinical practice. Yet, the charity recognised that its current technology infrastructure was not fit to support this mission.

Previous known as Bobath Children’s Therapy Wales, a rebrand, in partnership with RedNine, was their first step to finding their new brand voice.

When you are clear on the vision, the purpose and what your ambitions are, you can create and build the best possible options to achieve the outcomes you desire. This project is certainly a great example of a team empowered through strategic digital thinking.

Rachel Morgan, Head of Income Generation, Cerebral Palsy Cymru
“Digital Wonderlab took time to understand who we are and where we needed to be; we are a small charity and didn’t think such a project would be achievable. They were able to help us see the possibilities and talked to us in a way that made sense – they have incredible experience in technology transformation and always put people at the centre of what we were doing. A great blend of strategic thinking and the practicalities around how this would work for us.”

Digital Wonderlab were approached to undertake a digital audit to uncover the assets they had, identify existing pain points and explore their digital ambitions by focussing upon the positive outcomes they wanted to achieve.

We began our transformation work by documenting their processes and aligning to the charity’s ambitions. From here we developed a high-level strategy, with detailed roadmap, to help guide the next three years of activity - prioritising removing risks in their current processes and infrastructure by replacing them with efficient and effective ways of working.

Mirroring the charity’s purpose-centred ethos, we ensured that all processes were simplified for the team through customer workflows. We delivered automated, effective technology solutions to enable the charity to better provide services, share knowledge and showcase its values by continuing to tell its story in the right way.

The next phase focused upon a new user-led Umbraco website, with a specific focus on integrating a CMS with an effective fundraising and client referral journey to dramatically improve the user experience. This was supported with a new donation management system to make giving easier for new and existing donors and improved their supporters event management experience through software integration with Eventbrite.

Nathan Baranowski, Managing Director at Digital Wonderlab
“Cerebral Palsy Cymru hit a time of real uncertainty; as funding became a challenge during the Covid-19 pandemic, the charity questioned whether it was possible to continue on its digital transformation journey. With the need to grow brand awareness and engagement to enable people to get the help they needed heightened during the lockdown, we helped transform the charity and demonstrate why technology for us is never faceless: it always has meaning and purpose.”

Harnessing the power of Umbraco CMS we constructed a modern and easy to maintain new website and fundraising platform for Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

Being a .NET based CMS it meant we had all the in house expertise we might need for custom integration and development.

The frontend of the website is built using a Bootstrap framework with some funky bits of jQuery thrown in to make the magic happen.

The fundraising is a combination of bespoke development and integration with the Eventbrite API. Donations are handled on-site utilising Braintree which offers payments via card, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay.
