User Experience
Usability testing
Take a user centric approach and speak to your users to really understand their needs and goals. Gain in-depth insight to how your users engage with your product or service to make sure it’s meeting their expectations.
Why do usability testing?
Now more than ever usability testing is so important to make sure your customer’s needs are always being considered. With technology changing so quickly are your users moving at the same pace and will new features that you’re considering meet their needs or fall flat and damage you brand image?
Without seeing and hearing first hand from your target audience how will you know what works for them and what doesn’t. By considering usability testing early on in the process of products and services you can remove costly mistakes later in the process. Regular testing can help to keep the vision for a product focused and make sure the user is never forgotten
When to do usability testing
Usability testing should be regularly conducted to really know if your product or service is meeting the needs of your users. Without taking a user centred design approach the voice of your users could get lost and your product and service then doesn’t meet their needs. Below we have listed some of the key stages of when you should consider usability testing but ideally you would want a regular usability programme in place to make sure you understand your users
Discovery phase
At the beginning of a project, we look to explore the different audience groups and the features they will be looking for from your product or service. This can normally end up being a long list which needs to be prioritised so that it meets your user needs. Creating low-fidelity wireframe prototypes in Figma, Adobe XD and other prototyping software tools and testing this with your users allows us to confirm what is important to them and will meet their needs when you launch
Design phase
Once you start to apply the design to your wireframes this is where things can change. Designers need some flexibility to the wireframes they have produced but could this then impact the users journey? Of course it can, have they styled the buttons so they are obvious, can users still find what they need. Before getting into the expensive stage of building your product or service you should speak with your users and ensure that they can still easily find what they are looking for.
Development phase
During the discovery and design phase within the prototypes that have been created you can’t always show how a piece of functionality is truly going to work. By conducting testing at this stage, you can tease out any functionality problems and have confidence that when you go live that everything will work as expected for the users
Post launch phase
Once you are live you would think that no more testing is needed but as the product evolves we need to be sure that problems are not being introduced. We need to keep up with the competition as well so by understand users expectations we can have a clear roadmap of features.
Process we take
We follow a phased approach to define and develop a comprehensive digital strategy, starting from a vision and moving towards detailed execution. Here’s an overview of our process:
Planning
At the beginning of any project, we want to understand your world and the challenges you are facing. We would begin with a session to understand the key objectives for the project, what we are looking to test, who your users are and your research objectives.
Recruitment of participants
Depending on the project, we will either look to support you with the recruitment of participants or source participants from the information provided in the planning workshop.
Testing and analysis
Our expect UX Researchers will moderate one to one usability sessions. Observing users natural behaviour on your website or app we will gather insight to the pain points users are facing. Once complete we will look to analyse the findings to provide detailed recommendations.
Report delivery
After the analysis work is complete we will look to present back to you and your team a detailed report of prioritised findings and recommendations. For key issues we will provide video clips so you can see the problems first hand.
